Natural Chelation and Chelating Agents

Posted on by 0 comment

Chelation therapy is the most preferred method for treating patients affected with metal toxics. Metals like Lead, Chromium, and Mercury get deposited in the body through various sources including food intake. These are to be removed using the chelating agents. These agents bind to the metals in the blood vessels and blood flow and flush them out through urine. The chelating agents are prescribed by trained medical professionals. These agents can also be acquired through natural sources. They can be obtained from plant sources as vitamins and minerals. The natural agents are more effective and render excellent results.

Human body has its own biochemical mechanism to protect itself from the harmful toxins. We are exposed to various kinds of metal toxins in the environment. These metal toxins are removed by our body’s own defense mechanism. The intestines are the first level of this mechanism that fight against these heavy metals. The enzymes present in the intestines react in two ways. Either they bind themselves to the heavy metals and thereby controlling the absorption of these heavy metals or convert them into harmful substances. When we take plant derived natural chelating agents they counteract the harmful metal toxins and purge the system.

There are also chances that these metals dodge the defense mechanism of the intestinal enzymes. However, the body has its own plans. The chelating agents that are got from food we eat work on these metals and also metals like copper, zinc and iron too help a great deal is absorbing toxic metals like lead. These metals are treated in the liver. The liver is the prime detoxifying organ of the body. The enzymic actions of liver have a great control over absorption of heavy metals. Even if the toxic metals evade the liver, the body’s next level of mechanism prevents absorption of these metals.

When liver fails to take control over the heavy metals, they are further taken to the kidneys. The kidneys excrete the harmful metals. But, the process does not end here. Few toxic metals can never be got rid of by the body without using chelating agents. Few examples are mercury, arsenic and zinc etc. These toxics are deposited by the body in areas like fat and bones, where much damage cannot be done. However, over a time span, these poisons start damaging organs like brain, nervous system. In such cases chelation therapy is the only resort. The popular chelating agents prescribed to patients are EDTA, ALA and DMPS.

Chelating agents are also found in few compounds that can be obtained naturally. Coriander and spices help in excreting lead and turmeric chelates copper and iron. Eating foods rich in Vitamins, B1, C and E enhances the properties of the chelating agents and also absorbs lead. These substances not only chelate the heavy metals and toxins, but also provide antioxidants. Fruits and vegetables, the rich sources of antioxidants, let the cells and tissues repair themselves, which are damaged by these toxins. Consuming spices, fruits and vegetables let the body lead a healthy life and chelate the heavy metals and toxins we take in everyday without our conscious from the environment.
